Hydrating the Shek O Challenge: Our Commitment to a Plastic-Free Ocean
The ocean is more than just a beautiful backdrop for Hong Kong; it is a vital ecosystem that we all use, love, and rely on. This past weekend, the iconic Shek O Challenge and the world’s only Trisolothon returned, bringing together Hong Kong’s most dedicated swimmers, runners, and paddlers.
At Life Solutions, we believe that those who spend their time training and competing in nature are the true “first line of defense” for its protection. That is why we were incredibly proud to partner with the Ocean Recovery Alliance to support this year’s races, ensuring that athletic performance was met with sustainable hydration.
A Shared Vision for Our Waters
Witnessing the escalating problem of single-use plastic pollution, Life Solutions has been established with a clear passion: to develop a premium alternative to disposable plastics. Our bond with nature drives every step of our operations, from the engineering of our filtration systems to our community partnerships.
The Shek O Challenge represents a perfect synergy of these values. Organized by the Ocean Recovery Alliance—a pioneering NGO working closely with the United Nations Environment Programme and the World Bank to combat plastic pollution—the event is designed both to celebrate the ocean and to give back to it. Every race entry was donated directly to fund their critical marine conservation work, both locally in Hong Kong and on a global scale.
Hydration Without the Environmental Footprint
Large-scale sporting events often generate thousands of single-use plastic bottles in a matter of hours. For this year’s Shek O Challenge, we set out to prove that premium hydration does not have to come at the environment’s expense.
Life Solutions provided high-capacity water stations and reusable bottles on-site for all athletes and attendees. By offering pure, clean, and refreshing mains-fed filtered water, we completely eliminated the need for disposable plastics at the hydration checkpoints. Athletes could replenish and socialize after their 3km, 1km, and 400m swims knowing they were leaving no trace behind on Shek O beach.
