RO膜孔径极细,主要用于阻隔粒子较细的物质,单靠RO膜过滤会导致体积较大的杂质积聚,影响RO膜过滤能力,因此需要前置滤芯先阻隔所有大于5微米的杂质,防止RO膜淤塞。

活性碳是基本的过滤技术,一般滤芯孔径大小为0.1至5微米,而不同孔径大小的活性碳滤芯有不同功能,大多数活性碳滤芯可以去除氯气、灰尘、铁锈等。
活性碳滤水器体积通常较细、过滤速度较快,亦不会产生废水。
活性碳滤水器使用寿命较短,需要定期更换。另外,活性碳滤芯微孔不及RO微细,未必能完全除去所有杂质。
